| Kyla's
"Birthday" and Hospital Stay Home |
|
| Our
little Kyla was born at 38.5 weeks on Thursday, September 2nd. I
ended up having PIH (Pregnancy Induced Hypertension) set in over the
last week. Because my blood pressure wasn't going down - and she
was technically full term, it was decided that I should be
induced. We went in to the hospital Wednesday night, and we were to be
induced Thursday am. |

My water ended up breaking at 3:30am, and I started labor all on my own. By 11am, I was fully dilated, and it was felt that Kyla would be delivered within the hour. I had decided to do this birth without an epidural so an hour seemed very manageable to me at the time. One hour became two and so on....Kyla decided to keep turning herself on the way out. Instead of coming out face down, she was coming out sideways and slamming herself into my pelvis. She was too far up for a vacuum so the call was made to try forceps and be ready for an emergency c-section if that didn't work. She was delivered by a c-section at 3:55pm. |

Daddy stayed with her while I was stitched up. One of the nurses helped him give her the first bath. |

The gang then came down to visit me in recovery for her first feeding.

Even though it was by no means the birth that we had expected, it was still an unbelievable day. We were to leave the hospital on Sunday, but our little girl developed a touch of jaundice. Because of this...and the fact that my blood pressure was still climbing, they decided to keep us until Tuesday. |

Some Hospital Shots.... |
|
|
|
|
| Jaundice is pretty common in newborns and is easily treatable at the hospital. As part of the treatment, babies are placed under lights to get their bilirubin levels down. She spent 24 hours under the lights ("bililights") - coming out only for me to feed her. When she came out, she had to wear a "biliblanket" while she was with us. She's not plugged in below but you can see the cord hanging out in the picture with Brent. | |
