| What's new? Home I thought I'd post a little update page on what Kyla is up to these days. As I've mentioned, she started 1st grade this year. She's the youngest in her class but seems to be holding her own and gets along with the other kids well. She says that her favorite subjects right now are math and music. It's funny...but she doesn't like to sing or dance in front of others, but she really likes music class a lot and says she tries hard to sing well! She's got a sweet little voice, too:) I love to hear her sing with her headphones at home. They get a few pages of homework each night, and she's pretty good about getting them done early. For now, her homework is still in English. Starting with 2nd grade, it will be in French. I'm not sure how that will work since she'll need to translate the directions for me to help! |

| They do a lot of writing in
school and that spills over into home as well. She's always
writing in a "journal" or telling a story or playing school....usually
with us as the students. We've even gotten notes to take home to our
parents! I'm posting a few recent examples. You can overlook the spelling for now because she's doing this independently and just sounding words out. The yellow sheets are from a journal she made about herself. The bottom list is an exercise she saw on "Arthur" where they put their daily activities down in a list. The last is an essay (SA) about cats which not a big surprise. About 90% of what she writes and draws is cat related...her favorite subject! (That's my writing on the side. She wanted me to give her a "number of words" goal). |

| I know it won't last forever, but it's still pretty easy to get her involved in whatever we're doing. I want to enjoy that as long as it lasts. There have already been signs that she wants to distance herself from her parents. I went to a skating birthday party with her recently. She told me that she could only skate if I did....so I didn't really want to but strapped a pair of rental skates on my 40 year old feet and hit the boards with her. I wasn't out there for long though. Once her friends came, she told me that I needed to let her skate on her own because I was the only old person on the floor! Ha! | |||||

At her dentist appointment this spring, the x-rays showed that the roots were gone from her bottom teeth. She's been waiting for them to come out ever since. Although they're not even loose yet...she's got her first permanent tooth coming in behind one. You can see it there on the left. We do a daily check on its progress, so I thought I should document this big event: | ||||
