What's Kyla Doing These Days?
Home

I have a pile of assorted pictures to post, so I thought it might be a good time to give a little update with what Kyla's into lately.

She started Pre-K this fall and seems to be doing well.  She's coming home with a lot of new songs.  Her teacher has pointed out that she loves to hear stories and books.

At school and at home, she enjoys her art projects, drawing and coloring.  She will color in a coloring book but prefers plain paper and will make anyone and everyone a personal picture.  Her art projects have moved from "scribblescratch" (her term) to people and objects.  She's working on her letters/name and while she can't quite do her K without help, she's got the LYA pretty well down!

Drawing at her desk

Painting is still a big favorite, but she also likes markers, crayons and colored pencils.  Weekend mornings, she wakes up early (of course!) and draws pictures for everyone, cats included, and places them on us as we sleep.  She's recently discovered the stapler and is now she's into making "books", where she "writes" and illustrates little stories.  I get a real kick out of hearing her tell them...they range from a family that is surrounded by jellyfish to a volcano adventure with the cats and a balloon.
"Silly Goose Creative Movement" classes come to her school once a week.  At her request, we signed her up this year.  She loves it and will come home and reenact what they did.  For this exercise, she needed to put tape Xs on the floor and jump over fish cut-outs. ("No, I need TWO fish, mommy....TWO!")

They also do science projects in school.  She likes to do these at home, too.  This one involved pennies and a little cup of water...although when she did it at home, it involved an entire jar of change and she scrounged around for more when that was gone. These next few shots are from that home session.

As for her daily routine, Kyla will occasionally take a little nap or rest at school but normally she just reads or colors during naptime.  She's up early, 6:30, but we leave for work/school at 7:15 so it actually works out ok.  Bedtime is usually around 8:00.

She is still a very picky eater (Grrr!), but I'm still trying hard to keep good, healthy choices in her rotation.  She cooks with me and is excited to do so, but I can't say that it's helped very much.  There's never any more interest in eating what she helps me prepare.

Her personality is coming through more and more each day.  She puts a lot of drama into her stories and is equally as dramatic when she throws a fit!  She can be VERY bossy....we're still trying to figure out where she gets that?!?

These last shots are of her releasing her butterflies.  She named them Pip, Flitter, Flap, Stellaluna and Little Guy.  They were with us for a few days and as soon as I mentioned that we needed to release them at some point, she wanted them to be free right away.  We had one straggler, Little Guy, who hung on and couldn't quite leave the nest.  He had wing issues (one was pretty well shriveled up) so we kept him around and fed him oranges and sugar water until he passed on gently...like a day later.
