Visit to Audubon Zoo
Home

Daddy was gone for the week, so Kyla and I made a little New Orleans road trip to Audubon Zoo.  This was our first visit there.

It's really nice with a lot of cool exhibits and interactive things for the kids.  We spent almost four hours there and barely made it through half.

It was pretty crowded and Kyla was a bit cranky, so that combination made for some touchy moments.  The first one was at the front fountain.  She wanted to go in, but I wouldn't let her.

Pretty landscaping and lots to see

Tickle, tickle...

No smile for mommy at the fountain

We rode the carousel and did the simulator ride, in which we pretended to ride with the dolphins.  She liked the carousel and picked the panther.  I was told to ride the flamingo.

Finally a smile for the camera!

A new friend

This orangutan was really playing to the crowd.  He'd move over towards where the new people showed up, and it really looked as though he/she was posing and smiling for the cameras.  Of course, some yahoo hillbilly started throwing ice to him.  He loved it and ate it...but I had to explain to Kyla why that is not appropriate behavior and how that person was not following the rules.  It stuck with her because she drew "zoo rules" the whole way home, telling me how it's rude and disrespectful to throw things at the animals.

The cafe was too crowded....so we lunched at the snack bar instead.  It was a big moment because I finally broke down and bought Kyla her first box of popcorn.  I've been too afraid to give it to her until now. (I make her get Skittles at the movies!)

Tasting the forbidden snack

All gone!

There's a whole splashing water area for the kids.  I really wasn't prepared for that...and didn't want her spending all her energy there when we had a whole zoo ahead of us, so I told her we couldn't go in it.  She was not happy about that.  So, when we came up to this Mayan Excavation area, I let her play extra long.
