Easter Trip to New Orleans
Home

We took an overnight trip to New Orleans Easter weekend.  Our first stop was to  City Park on our way into town.  This was our first visit there...what a great place!  It's very big and has a lot to do, but we only went to Storyland and Carousel Gardens.  I can surely see us making many future visits as it is also home to the Museum of Art, the Botanical Gardens, an Arboretum, a Live Oaks collection as well as a large playground and many walking paths.

We hit Storyland first, and Kyla ran to check out each of the play areas.  They were all themed from different fairy tales, much like Storybook Forest in PA.

After Storyland, we hit the amusement park side.  After a twirl with mommy on the carousel, she rode a few rides on her own.  There were others that she could have taken for a spin, but she was happy to make one last visit to Storyland before we left.  She loved sliding down that dragon!

We stayed right in the French Quarter, so we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening walking the streets and along the river.  Kyla was beat so it wasn't a very late night, but we still got some good food and a few drinks.  The Gazebo Cafe is starting to become one of our regular spots.  It's a good place for us with Kyla, outside seating with lots to look at and live music.  They even serve chicken fingers!

Chilling out in Jackson Square
I'd have to say that these balloon figures were a highlight of her trip.  We got them from the wandering balloon clown in Jackson Square and they kept her amused all night, through breakfast at Cafe Du Monde and the whole ride home.  If you can't tell, they're a purple butterfly and pink poodle.
We had originally planned to do some Easter activities in the French Quarter.  The House of Blues was hosting a gospel brunch that sounded fun and kid-friendly and then there was the Easter parade scheduled to come through that afternoon.  We were all up early, however, and pretty tired.  We decided that all might lead to a lot of traffic and crowds and just weren't up for it.  Instead, we headed back home to find Kyla's basket.  She was surprised to see that the bunny didn't forget her while she was gone!
