Pennington Balloon Championship
Home

We made it to the Pennington Balloon Championship for a night this year.  This is a three day event that takes place every year.  It starts with a balloon competition in the morning and ends with fireworks.  We got there around 6pm to catch the evening events.

First was a demonstration by the Black Daggers parachuting team.  They came in right above us from a helicopter.  It took Kyla a few landings before she actually got interested in them.

Next was the "Hare and Hounds" event.  A balloon takes off first and then the others all inflate and take off at once.

Couldn't take her eyes off them....

The Coca-Cola balloon took off first

The others (~30) then inflated to chase

They're THIS big!

After the balloons took off, we headed over to check out the Children's Village.  The kids were all very excited to get their faces painted.  We headed there first.  There was a long line but they were content waiting in it.

There were many designs to chose from but Kyla quickly decided on this little pink ribbon with hearts and glitter.  As usual, she was VERY serious when it was her turn.

After the painting, we headed back to the balloons where they were doing the Balloon Glow.  The grounded balloons all fire in unison which lights up the field.

Kyla's turn - she's super excited!!!

The kids dug into some cupcakes after the Balloon Glow, but we didn't quite make it to the fireworks.  Some fire ant bites put Kyla over the edge, and it was time to go home.  She was really tired and was asleep within minutes of getting home.
