Our First Family Camping Trip!
Home

We decided to give camping a try and spent a night at Tickfaw State Park.   Kyla has been asking to sleep in a tent for some time now.  Her friend, Dylan, has also shown an interest, so we teamed up with Karen and Bill for an overnight adventure.  Tickfaw is only about an hour from here and has camping on site.

Kyla was very excited for this trip.  She slept in her sleeping bag with a flashlight for the nights leading up to it.

Roughing it with Karen and Bill

Running wild in the tent

It rained pretty hard the night before, but our forecast was clear.  It was on the cooler side, but that made for a comfortable evening and helped keep away the bugs.  Kyla helped her daddy put up the tents.  He let her pound in the stakes.  I took several pictures because it was really cute, but they didn't turn out very well.

Dylan and Kyla play very well together and really kept each other amused.  They each brought toys and activities to share.  Dylan had a little couch which was just right for snacking.

Making lots of pictures

Bubbles of every size!

We had a fire and gave the kids the full camping experience by cooking hot dogs and marshmallows.  Neither had much patience with the hot dogs.  They were either holding them too far away or annoyed by the smoke, so we finished them off.  The marshmallows were more exciting.

Showing them the ropes

"3 marshmallows, no more, no less"

I decided to go with chocolate graham crackers instead of the traditional graham cracker and chocolate bar.  I thought the other way would be too messy with the chocolate but that was ridiculous because it was sticky and messy no matter what.  As you'll see from all of these pictures, the kids were dirty the whole trip!

Sticky!

What is this mess?!?

Their favorite activity of the evening had to be hanging out in the back of the truck.  Whatever they had going on, it was taken to the back of the truck...snacks, dinner, marshmallows, whatever!

I tucked away the DVD player, and it came in handy for the end of their day.  They laid in the back of the truck and watched videos before bedtime.  Kyla went to bed around 8(ish?) and Dylan headed off about an hour or so after that.

Snacks and glow sticks

Dylan and daddy at the campfire

The mommies and the daddies stayed up a bit later and had some fun hanging out around the fire...not too late though as we knew our little campers would be up early.  I've split the pictures into a second page.  Jump to our next morning pictures HERE!
