Day 4
Portage Hotel to Anakiwa
20km (~12 miles), 6 hours
|
| Another beautiful day for walking the track. The
terrain today started out difficult but was fairly easy going for the last
half. It took me along the ridge between the Sounds and into the
native forest. There was a side track to Mistletoe Bay, named for
it's abundance of Mistletoe when first settled. Given the time of
year, a journey there was tempting - although I didn't quite feel up to
the extra hour of travel. |

Only one more to go..... |
At the end of the track, we were collected
again by water taxi and taken back to Picton. I must say
that I found this to be both a challenging and rewarding
trek. I met some interesting characters along the way -
and saw views that I will probably never match again. |

| Upon arrival to my hotel in Picton....I was met with two
great surprises. First, when checking in - the hotel staff met with
me with "Happy Birthday" and presented me with a dinner from my
dad. Even with us being a day ahead here, he still managed to make
those arrangements. I was shocked as I kinda forgot it was my
birthday until this point. |
| They then shuttled me to my room where another surprise
awaited me....a beautiful spray of flowers from my baby. Even
from the ice, he made sure that I knew he remembered. Both
gestures brought tears to my eyes. |
