| We had
an earthquake here last night! It happened early morning - and
so far, I'm the only person in town who it woke up. Anyone who knows
me knows that I'm a very light sleeper. I woke up at 3:30
because of some rattling. We had our windows open, so I just
figured it was the wind rattling the cabinets or something.
Found out the next am that it was the earthquake. Ha! I
had no idea! We learned on our way to Rotorua that earthquakes
there are common - 7 to 8 a week, but none that you'd notice.
Now we can say we've lived through an earthquake. |

We made it to our wine tour today by way of "On
Yer Bike" Winery Tours. I had to include pictures of us
on the bikes. It's been awhile for both of us - our bums are a
bit sore! |
|
| This wine tour is the best
thing coming - for $40NZ (~$20US), you get the bikes, water, a
beautiful lunch, a cell phone (for having your purchases picked up
and for having drunk bikers picked up, too!) and a detailed map of
the vineyards along the way. There were at least 6 vineyards
along the route but we only visited 3. The ride was enough
fun! It was a perfect day, and I'm burnt to a
crisp. |

We almost didn't
make the trip as transportation to Hastings ended up being hard to
come by. We caught a ride on Kiwi Shuttle and had a great
driver. When he picked us up for our return trip, he said
"Were you in a hurry? If not, I'd like to show you the
area." So - he took us on a total tour of Hastings and
then when back in Napier, he took us to the plateau lookout and
docks. It was awesome and totally free of charge. Just a
guy showing us his country. |

|
| And finally....mystery
solved! We asked the manager here at the Gardener Court Motel
what the deal is with the two buttons on the toilets down
here. I was always pushing the right and Sharon was pushing
the left. We couldn't figure it out - they both
flushed?!?! Turns out that the right one is for "when you
wee...", the other is, well....you can figure it out from here,
I think. |
